Key tax changes (2025 returns)
Standard deduction increased
The IRS raised the standard deduction for inflation. Many filers who do not itemize will see a lower taxable income.
Tax brackets adjusted
Income brackets moved up with inflation. Some households stay in a lower bracket even if pay went up slightly.
1099-K reporting still evolving
Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, and similar apps may issue 1099-Ks. Side-hustle income is taxable even without a form.
Energy and home credits
Credits may apply for qualifying heat pumps, insulation, windows, and HVAC upgrades. Annual caps apply.
Business deductions under review
Meals, vehicle, home office, and contractor payments remain common audit triggers. Keep documentation.
